Snowmobile Registration

The 2011 Lake George Winter Carnival
The Adirondack Mountains is a year round vacation spot that a lot of people love because of all of the natural beauty of the area as well as all of the attractions the area offers. For example, throughout the winter you can ski and snowboard at Gore Mountain, which is rated as one of the best snowboarding spots in Upstate New York. And you will find great cross country skiing and more downhill skiing throughout the region.
One of the highlights of every year is the Lake George Winter Carnival, which takes place in February. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Winter Carnival, which officially began on New Year’s Day with the Polar Plunge. This year there were approximately 1,200 swimmers who registered for the plunge – and a lot more people who didn’t register just jumped into the waters.
However, there’s a lag of one month before the festival resumes. Then each weekend in February is full of exciting events for you and your family.
If you missed the Polar Plunge and dare to get your feet wet in the frigid water you can “plunge” every weekend during the carnival. Or, if you want to just watch you can get to the beach before three o’clock any Saturday or Sunday afternoon throughout February and watch the plungers.
Now, if you’re looking for some warmer activities, you can enjoy some tasty samples of chili, chowder, chicken wings, and barbeque at the cook off competition of local restaurant owners that happens at the festival. And you and the kids can get a barrelful of laughs watching the outhouse races.
If you bring the children they won’t get bored with all of the activities available. They can enjoy playing on the giant ice slide, taking a tethered ride in a hot air balloon, or going snowmobiling. And you and the family are certain to enjoy the historical reenactments of what transpired in the region during the 1700s.
Other activities include sky diving, dog sled rides, a children’s petting zoo, and wood carving demonstrations. There are fireworks every weekend, AVT runs, a 50th Anniversary parade, and so much more.
If you’re visiting from out of state and would like to ride an ATV you will have to buy a TrailPass in order to ride in New York. However, New York State is reciprocal with ATV registrations from out of state, so if your off-road vehicle is registered in your state it’s possible to ride it in NY.
If you’re an out of state snowmobiler you won’t need a NY TrailPass but your snowmobile has to be registered in NY state and you must carry insurance if you want to ride your snowmobile there.
The Adirondacks is also the home to Adirondack chairs.
