Metal Base

How do you remove the metal base of the rear-view mirror so you can stick back on the windshield?
Because of the heat my rear-view mirror fell off my windshield. I bought the needed adhesive to glue it back on. I just can’t figure out how to get the metal base out of the back of the mirror. Most mirrors have a screw that holds it in, but I do not see any sort of screw. HELP.
I assume you are talking about a Ford vehicle. Many Fords have “breakaway” rearview mirrors that are designed to pop off the mounting bracket. If your mirror looks like the sides of it wrap over the edge of the mount, then you can just take a screwdriver and pry it out of the mirror. If your mirror has a small metal bracket with 2 little nubs sticking up at the bottom of the mount, then you have to take a pair of channel locks and squeeze those nubs down while sliding the mount out of the mirror. Be careful to not scratch the black paint on your mirror. When you glue the mount back on the windshield, be careful not to put it on with the wrong side against the glass. The widest part of the mount should be facing the inside of the car.
